Sony has announced that this weekend's Concord beta — previously only accessible if you pre-order the game — is now open to all PS Plus members. As long as you have an active membership for any one of the three PS Plus tiers, you'll be able to download and play the PS5 beta during its early access weekend.
The news comes from a fresh PlayStation Blog post, where it is also announced the Concord beta can be pre-loaded on PS5 from today at 6pm BST / 10am PT. Your progress from the two beta phases won't carry over into the full game, but for participating, you'll earn yourself a Lil' Frog Weapon Charm and Star Flare Business Card.
The early access weekend of the Concord beta will then go live on Friday, 12th July 2024 at the following times:
- North America: 10am PDT / 11am MDT / 12pm CDT / 1pm EDT
- UK/Ire: 6pm BST
- Europe: 7pm CEST / 8pm EEST
- Asia/Oceania: 2am (Sat) JST / 1am (Sat) AWST / 3am (Sat) AEST

Wonder if this means few people pre-ordered on PS5.
I'm not very interested myself but I'll see what others have to say about it.
This is good and bad news, good news as I'm looking forward to trying the game out and now I can earlier than expected. Bad news is I get the feeling that the only reason Sony are doing this is because the pre orders are very low. Although friend groups would only need one person to pre order as they would get an additional 4 beta codes.
I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if pre-orders are low, but at the end of the day they need to get people to try it.
If it's as good as they think it is, it'll sell itself. So makes sense to open it up to everyone.

I’ll download it. Why not try a free beta? If it’s good, it’s good. If it sucks, it sucks. Free is free. Won’t take more than an hour to know either which way.
I’d imagine Sony was surprised at the early reception of it and general lack of buzz, especially when the beta should be the highest profile gaming event in a bone dry July.

At least I'll get to try it this weekend to see what this thing is like for myself.

Bearing in mind that the pre-order gave people an additional four beta codes to pass out that really doesn't sound too promising for pre-orders. Hopefully opening it up will encourage more people to try it out.
@get2sammyb Yeah, I think people have good reasons to be sceptical but I've mostly seen positive response from the previews so it might just turn out fine.
I mean, I wasn't very excited for Helldivers 2 before launch and now it's one of my favorite games this year.
I think that Concord is DoA unless Sony is willing to put it into PS Plus day one. This game is competing with Overwatch 2, which is free-to-play.
40$ payment worked for Helldivers 2, because Helldivers 2 was very unique. I don't think that's the case for Concord.
Fact that they are opening beta without need of preorder speaks volume about state of preorders for that game.
On Steam, game has 1400 followers and is 1700th most wishlisted game on platform. Despite it being only one month before release.

What a time to be a PS Plus subscriber, I knew it would pay off in the long run
Definitely the right move. These two beta phases could be the determining factor of if this game has a chance to succeed or not and locking it off with pre-orders always seemed like a strange choice to me.
I'm actually really looking forward to giving it a go. Would I rather get a new Killzone or Resistance from Playstation? Absolutely but I don't see either of those happening any time soon so maybe Concord could fill that Playstation shooter-sized hole.
Am I being blind but where is the pre load for the open beta?

@Voltan yes, the early access for Plus members. Was reading the blog and it said ‘ Just look for the option to download and play the beta when you boot up your PS5.’ That’s what I was looking for on my PS5 😂
But after another re read of the post, I assume it will be 10am PDT along with the pre order folks 😀

If I gave Foamstars a chance when it was in beta I will give Concord the same chance, besides I don’t think I’d ever play it if it wasn’t a free trial.
@AyanamiReign No, and I don’t think it’ll ever be possible since the full game will also require PS+.
I’d say this release is a big deal. Firewalk is a PlayStation studio and my expectations are aligned with that of any PlayStation first party studio.

Just wanted to note something:
I know it's not a direct correlation for success, but the game's subreddit currently has 699 members as of just now.
Less than 700 people on all of Reddit are so excited so as to subscribe to conversation and discussions and posts about a game that releases in a few weeks.
For comparison (and I know this, too, isn't necessarily a direct correlation because these games are out and have been able to garner audiences, but anyway)... The First Descendant's sub has almost 81k subscribers (and this site just gave it a 3/10). ZZZ has a sub with nearly 64k and a leaks sub with almost another 31k.
Helldivers 2 has three subs with 1.4m, 170k, and 28k (for a leaks sub).
There's no ***** way this game hit its pre-order targets. Not in a million years.
Unless this game rocks absolute SOCKS OFF, it'll die within months.

They said they are doing weekly cinematics... probably because they are only anticipating being around for 3 months
Pre-ordering games to access the Beta is a trend that needs to die, and quickly. If you want people to play your game let them try the demos for free, otherwise what you hiding by locking it away behind a paywall?
