Polyphony Digital teased a significant Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 update for the GT World Series livestream over the past weekend, and it delivered: update 1.49 is bringing a new track, lots more cars, new physics, and expanded GT Sophy AI compatibility to additional circuits. You can see all of it in action in the trailer above.
Most importantly, the new race track is Eiger Norwand, returning from PS3 entry Gran Turismo 6. Next up, the following cars will be made available for purchase in-game:
- Ferrari 430 Scuderia (2007)
- BMW M3 (1997)
- Lambroghini Gallardo LP 560-4 (2008)
- Genesis Vision Gran Turismo
- Subaru Impreza Rally Car (1998)
- RUF RGT 4.2 (2016)
The trailer then teases "new physics" but does not expand on what it means by that; you can also look forward to kitting your ride out with Michelin tyres and wheels from another new brand. For the ultimate racing test, you can also compare your skills to the elite Sophy AI system on more tracks having downloaded the update. You can race it on the endurance course that is the Nurburgring and the full track version of Lago Maggiore. This content will be available for free on 25th July 2024.

Excellent! Time to dust off the wheel n pedals 😌
Really looking forward to this update. Be interesting to see how the new physics and tyres affect online races.
And the new track should look amazing in VR.
Great stuff. I just got back into GT7 and Eiger Norwand is one of my favourite tracks from past entries. Also, woot for a new Scooby!
All about that E36 pretty sure Nordwand was GT5 on PS3, in-fact I think it first appeared in ‘Gran Turismo HD concept’ which turned out to be the demo for GT5 on PS3? Who remembers that 😁
Awesome thankyou polyphony. Can't wait to try this track with ps5 graphics. More tracks and less cars please, this update will mean I'm back up to needing 25, and my ocd can't take it !
Awesome that they keep adding stuff to the game still. In VR its so good its mind blowing 🤩
Aside from adding PSVR2 support, I think this is the best update so far.
Sophy on Nurburgring is amazing.
A great road track too
And almost an entire roster of decent cars, along with physics updates (I’m hoping translated into FFB improvements too).
Thank you polyphony 🙏🏻
A nice decent chunky update, looking forward to this.
Is this the mountain track that was in Prologue?
Wonder if future updates might drop PS4 and solely focus on PS5
GT7, the gift that keeps on giving. If only other games followed this pattern of free content updates. Shame GT7 they added the currency buying, other than that it's great. Bamco - I'm looking at you, especially Tekken 8!
I haven't tried it myself, but I heard of people who became spontaneously religious after trying GT7 on PSVR2 with a racing wheel.
@Blofse
Nobody buys currency in GT7. It's not like it's in your face at all, it's practically invisible. I try to get gold every week in the time trial challenge and that nets me 2 million credits, every week. There's also about another million up for grabs for completing the weekly 5 races.
@mac_da_man I'm so jealous 😭 this is the one game that is making me seriously consider a PSVR2 purchase. I feel it'd be worth it even if I only used it for GT7.
I've just purchased this to play with my T150 set up..but now I'm looking into buying the fanatec gt wheel setup. Damn I've been bitten hard by the sim racers..
@TheAmbienWalrus if any game is worth it it’s this one bro
@TheAmbienWalrus i sold mine just after launch but will get another one someday once they are dirt cheap.
@Northern_munkey you tried this in VR yet? It will blow your nuts off more than going from a pad to a wheel did. Its completely and utterly rediculous. In the most amazing way possible.
@Mikey856 dammit Mikey, don't tempt me! 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, good idea. I'll hopefully be able to hold out until that point. My bank balance is looking at me with a nervous face right now!
@TheAmbienWalrus it is almost worth it for GT 7 alone, but I hope Sony doesnt abandon VR just yet so theres more system selling games
I just claimed my 1 million for guessing right on Lexus in Manufacturers Cup and the 2 tickets for watching both streams, so far so good. But it's annoying when you have all 505 cars and the tickets give you 2 cars you already own, fine you think, just sell them. Yeah right, now I got like 50% of their values, on 2 brand new cars that I just got!! Polyphony Digital should make the game check owned cars first and ASK if you want another of that same car or the actual value for a brand new car.
I love GT7 but this moneyfarming crap they drag us through must be stopped! Remove useless spareparts and double cars and always 5 or 10K on the tickets and the game would be near perfect. And more tracks of course, I know Eiger Norwand is coming, but more tracks!!
Strange question to anyone who can assist… does this game have an in game soundtrack that plays when you race? Only I played it once and there was no in race music just the sounds of the car’s engine and tyres etc
I must get round to unwrapping my copy, just need more time!
A cautionary tale regarding wheels and VR for GT7.
I'd always fancied a decent wheel and earlier this year I finally bought a Playseat Trophy Logitech G edition seat, along with a Logitech G Pro ffb Wheel, pro pedals and PSVR2, mostly for the GT7 experience.
First week. Incredible. Pure wow.
Second week. Good.
Third week. Fun, but novelty worn off now and the faff of it all making itself known.
Fourth week. Starting to play on the sofa again with a pad, a cuppa and my feet up. Full-on buyers remorse setting in, why did I waste so much money on all that kit that isn't going to get much more use from here on in?
End of the fourth week. Big relief as everything returned just within the windows for full refunds.
YMMV of course, but I know from posting about my experience that I'm far from the only one that apes into a wheel and/or VR setup and regrets it a few weeks later. I'm one of the lucky ones who got out at no loss. And it's not really a case of DYOR either...until you have it in your home, you won't see how much or how little all the faff bothers you or impacts your gaming!
Hopefully the Eiger Norwand track has all the original layouts as it did in the previous GT6 game. Not a limited layout.
@LordFunkalot It does, yes. The in-race selection is, to be charitable to it, quirky.
@TheAmbientWalrus, If only I could use my old Microsoft Sidewinder wheel with it! VR is fantastic even with just the gamepad. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and started a race. I was “yeah, looks fine” as it was showing the outside of the car…. Then you go into the car! I must have spent 5 minutes just looking around the cabin. I’ve crashed a couple of times just looking at buildings by the roadside. The only thing in VR I wasn’t that impressed with was wet weather effects in VR. I wanted it to be like Spa GP 1997, but the visibility is fine, needs more rooster tails
@Ricky63 Thanks 👍🏻
@TheAmbienWalrus psvr2 need all the help it can get so buy it immediately and play GT7 🤣
Do you still need to do the same race a million times to buy a car that is out of stock by the time you want it?
@Kidfunkadelic83 I tried psvr on the ps4 at my friends house but it made me quite nauseous. Once I've persuaded my wife to let me splash the cash on the fanatec wheel I'll look into it but it's not on my to do list just yet..
Seeing that Impreza makes me so happy. I’ll be picking this game back up when this update drops just so I can get that car.
@Northern_munkey PSVR 2 is on a completely different level. Its funny as some games made me feel a little ill on psvr2 but GT7 disnt at all. When Sony eventually admit theyvs stopped supporting it and units plummet in price i will grab one again.
@LordFunkalot In game, at the selection map cafe, garage etc. Go up to the leftupmost corner of the screen, press GT to open GT Menu, Options, Sound Volume:
Here you can choose Race sound (BGM means background music) so you can mix and match how you want the game to behave. Check if Race BGM is off if so, set it to ON for music during races.
Hope that helps.
@ChromaticDracula One of my favourites too 😌 I know it's a bit out of their wheelhouse but I'd love to see Polyphony take a crack at Rally.
@TheAmbienWalrus Ah! SAME! The rally tracks in 3 were always my favorite. I need an entire rally mode if not an entire rally game.
In the meantime, EA sports WRC is pretty solid if you haven’t tried it yet!
@Kidfunkadelic83 awesome. Its something I'll consider down the road but I just need that fanatec rig first...I NEED it..
@Zeke68 Awesome thanks and appreciated
@ChromaticDracula awesome game and WRC generations is brilliant as well..
@Kidfunkadelic83 we will have to get some online races going bud..wheel vs dual sense lol..
Nice update, I'll dive back in again.
@Northern_munkey I got the fanatec GT DD Pro shortly after it came out, with the uprated power supply and the brake pedal, as an upgrade to my trusty Logitech G29. In all honesty I wish I'd just modded the G29 pedals, yes the DD Pro is a very good bit of kit, but nothing about the wheel/base side has me overly impressed with it, the G29 feels nicer in the hand too. But a load cell brake pedal? That made a whole world of difference.
I'm gonna assume (which is always dangerous) that, with the WRC car and the new track, the physics they're talking about are rally physics. Which have always been a weak point in GT. Can't say I'm massively excited about it if I'm honest. Haven't played the game for eons anyway.
@LiamOliver thanks for the info but all the reviews I've read and watched on YouTube from trusted sim racers that use the fanatec gt dd pro or the thrustmaster equivalent say otherwise.
@LiamOliver I'm really new to the whole sim racing thing so I've done a hell of a lot of research before I committed myself financially. I bought wrc generations and EA sports wrc when both were heavily discounted in a psn sale recently which then prompted me to try an entry level wheel set up being the thrustmaster T150. I decided on this model because for the price all the reviews on setups retailing for the same price all agreed it was the best of the bunch. I really like it but it's a gear and belt system which is great but I want a direct drive unit and the fanatec gt dd pro is pretty much the best one for under £800. The upgrade path is much better than thrustmaster and logitechs offerings and its something I've mused over for a couple of weeks now. In regards to gran turismo 7 from what I can make out the force feedback was a bit naff to say the least when it launched but the last patch (1.31?) Improved it dramatically apparently but having only just purchased it I'm going to have to ask other gt7 players here for clarification. Once again thanks for your advice but I've not done this much investigation into an expensive purchase since the last bass guitar I bought. Thankyou 👍
@Northern_munkey @Northern_munkey Last patch is 1.48 But anyway, I own the Fanatec DD Extreme base / GT7 wheel and went from my Thustmaster (beltdriven) T300RS GT and it's a MUCH better experience on my new setup!!
But if I crank up FFB to max both on wheel and ingame (GT7) it doesn't feel good. I think I have 5 or 6 in Fanatec software and max ingame and it feels fiiiiine.
And the Direct Drive part, well, I should have not waited until 2024 if I had knew it can be this smooth and fun to drive with DD. I love my new setup!!! I could go on about my pedals an shifter but I wont. But same happy feeling.
But hey, that's just me and how I feel. No Pro driver or nothing, just a boomer with too much money to spare at the moment.
The important thing is, Fanatec is going through some real turmoil at the moment. The founder and former CEO got sacked and claims some "infiltrated" his company just to make it possible for Corsair to buy them and he in return is now teaming up with outside investors (some chinese that I don't like the idea off) but it's a struggle internally it seems.
I ordered beginning June and got all my stuff shortly after but as you are in the U.K it should be fine, seems their american and asian departments doesn't send anything since last Black Friday!!..
One final tip for you, only order things that are in stock! If one single item is comin at a later date, the ENTIRE order will be held to that date. Just so you know.
Good luck whatever you end up buying! (I bought a Playseat Trophy and it works great with my gear and doesn't take up that much space in case you wonder what I put all my gear on)
// End wall of text for 9000
@Zeke68 cheers I appreciate the info. I'm not buying from fanatec directly so hopefully all should be good.
