Aero the Acro-Bat, a cult classic 16-bit platformer from Sunsoft, is making its grand return on PS5 and PS4. Scheduled for release on 2nd August 2024, you can take a look at this retro title in the above announcement trailer.
The original game released for SNES and Mega Drive back in 1993 and found praise for its soundtrack and challenging levels, in which you must complete objectives rather than simply reach the exit. Publisher Ratalaika Games is bringing the series back to modern hardware, with the first game arriving next month and what sounds like more coming later down the line.
While the game itself looks like a pretty straight conversion, there are some modern features worth noting. You'll be able to choose between the English and Japanese versions, and the game will have rewind, turbo, and save state functions. Additionally, you'll be able to choose from several screen filters, peruse a gallery of artwork, and there are various cheats you can enable to make the game less difficult.
Will you be saving the circus with Aero the Acro-Bat next month? Cannonball into the comments section below.

Woah. Talk about a blast from the past!
Anyone remember Awesome Possum?😂
Heck yeah! I rented Aero the Acrobat a lot but I never owned it. I’m all for these older games getting a second life on PS5.
7up game was cooler imo
@Yoop Cool Spot! I rented that one a few times!
I remember this game getting an EGM cover back in the day. That artwork is super nostalgic. I remember the game being a pure renter though, pretty standard mascot platformer. Fun to see this stuff coming back though.
This also has a sequel and a spinoff, Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel
Liked them when I was a kid, have they held up?
Why did I watch that trailer with the sound on. Why.
Cool, I love all the old retro games coming back!
I owned this when I was a kid on the SNES. It was an pretty good game. But not sure if I would be that interested in playing it again.
Interesting to see another game from an Evercade cartridge broken out and sold separately. The additional features on the stand alone release are nice, but it really makes me appreciate the value of the Evercade carts.
More Sunsoft fair.
Still no Space Station Silicon Valley (come on Take Two DMA/Rockstar North), still no Glover N64 (Piko Interactive what's going on with a modern console port?) or others, sigh.
No Plok SNES either which whoever has the license for that too.
So many good ones that are in limbo at this point.
I had the game on Megadrive. This makes me want Dynamite Headdy and James Pond.
I played this on my friend's SNES back in the day and really enjoyed it.
@Yoop I really liked that game. But I have some examples from games I really loved in the past to seeing how terribly they aged. 😅
