Most recent purchase was Rise of the Ronin: Digital Deluxe Edition. Worth it purely for the extra items including the much-coveted Japanese Formal Wear.

Didn't purchase it myself but my sister got me Rise of the Ronin as a birthday gift and in PS Store sale going on I bought Contra: Operation Galuga. Both games I've been wanting to play for a while but waited on while I cleared out some of the backlog.
Finally found a decent price on Lies of P physical! I’ll be saving this for something special like a milestone plat or when I have a couple of weeks annual leave, so won’t be playing it for a while… but buzzing about it all the same.
@colonelkilgore That’s a good catch. I haven’t thought about Indigo Prophecy in a long time, but I really enjoyed it back in the day. It’s likely to show its age at this point, but at the time it was a unique experience.
Out of curiosity and as an extension of our previous discussion, what’s a rough break down of your game collection as far as digital vs. physical. I think I’m about 75% digital/25% physical if take into account the PS+ games I have in my library. But if I’m just counting games I’ve bought outright, it’s probably the opposite, somewhere around 70% physical.

@Th3solution yeah I don’t normally go in for the more narrative heavy/gameplay-lite titles but I’m due to have surgery next month and will struggle to use my left arm for a month or two, so I’m looking at games that don’t demand too much skill and quick-reflexes for while I’m in recovery. So I was considering Heavy Rain but when I was looking into it, I learned that Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophesy) was actually an earlier Quantic Dream effort, so I thought I’d start with that.
Just done a quick count on my physical which is around 450-ish and my digital is around 700-ish, though there’s a fair few cross-over where I picked up a digital super cheap or on ps+ but then wanted the physical for the collection.
@colonelkilgore That’s quite a collection — some 1100-1200 games. Nice.
As for Quantic Dream, I think we’ve discussed their library before, but I do think we failed to recognize Indigo Prophecy. I didn’t realize it had a PS4 port. I must have played it on PS2, if I’m remembering correct. But yes, it’s probably a good place to start if you want the full evolution of their output. The only one I skipped is Beyond Two Souls but always have felt the urge to go back to it. But after Detroit Become Human I think their older games will feel inferior. Heavy Rain is the closest to approach Detroit’s greatness.
Sorry to hear you’ll be disabled for a time. I’m sure in that collection of 1100 games that you have others beside the QD stuff that can be played with one hand. Maybe some Telltale, Supermassive, turned-based RPGs, Visual Novels, or deck builders.

Exactly that mate… as I’ve mentioned many times before (so much so that I’m probably boring everyone actually 🤔) while I really want to get into turn-based RPG’s, I just never seem to click with them. This is the perfect opportunity though, so I’m gonna try and play at least one. I’m still zeroing in on which one I’m gonna play though. Right now it’s between Final Fantasy XIII, Trails of Cold Steel, Ni No Kuni and Dragon Quest XI.
@colonelkilgore It ok because I repeat myself all the time. 😅 We have enough fresh blood that cycles through here that sometimes you just have to repeat things. And most of us forget a lot too. Probably because of how we’ve rotted our brains with gaming for so long.
Of that list, I’ve only played FF13 and the first 10-ish hours of ToCS. Either would be fine, although if memory serves, they both have some active components to their battle systems. In the case of FF13 I think there’s an active time bar aspect, but it’s been so long I’ve forgotten how it works. And with Cold Steel, there is some movement around the battle field which plays a small role in the strategy.
Are you going to be able to simultaneously control the R and L analog sticks? These games all have 3D worlds except ToCS has mostly static maps though, if memory serves, but I think inside the dungeons you occasionally have a camera to control. But wow, I’m embarrassed that I can’t remember for sure. What was I saying about forgetting and brain rot?
Anyways, are there any 2D or 2.5D turn based RPGs in your library? Like the old FF1-6, or Sea of Stars, Octopath Traveler II, etc? I’ve never actually thought about playing with one hand and now I’m looking through my games wondering if I have played any which are possible that way. Maybe Disco Elysium, Lara Croft Go, Paper please, Tetris Effect… there’s not a ton of options.

@Th3solution I do have Sea of Stars and another 2D turn-based RPG called Cosmic Star Heroine… I do have Disco Elysium too so that’s an option that I hadn’t considered.
I also have Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5, which are obviously supposed to be amazing, so I could go with one of those too.
I’m currently planning Fahrenheit and AI: The Somnium Files for week one of recovery and then maybe a JRPG the following week.
Not exactly a PS5 purchase, but because I think the Sony gaming headphones are poop (I got them free and barely ever use them anyway) I've got some nice new Bowers & Wilkins headphones to replace my Sennheisers that were just getting a bit old. I can't wait to try them out on a decent cinematic game with plenty of quality sound design though. They are super comfy, and handled a bit of music very well this morning so I have fairly high hopes for them being great for immersive gaming.

@colonelkilgore I mean, would Baldur's Gate 3 not be the perfect game for you right now? I know, for me, it was the only game that could ever have convinced me turn based combat is actually okay, and I don't remember it ever being too stressful on the controller inputs. No QuickTime events that you get in stuff like Heavy Rain, either. And the fact that it is a unanimous game of the year for a reason 😁
It's also a game you can get completely lost in, which is a big plus for any recovery 💪
I'll just pipe up and say @colonelkilgore that Persona 4 Golden has a good 2-3 hours full of dialogue and cutscenes before you're really given free reign. And even then half the game is a slice of life social sim alongside the dungeon crawling, turn based combat.
Persona 5 does start off a bit quicker before it's long opening/introductory few hours as well.
Not to put you off trying them of course! Just letting you know what you getting into!

Oops.. I didn’t see those responses from @Ravix and @HallowMoonshadow before I posted over in the other thread, but both bring up some good points. BG3 popped up in my mind too for you but I think there’s an action selection wheel which requires shoulder buttons and simultaneous analog and button presses for combat. It’s turn based so you’ve got time, but there’s a little dexterity involved, I think.

@Ravix that’s a good shout actually. I don’t actually own Baldur’s Gate 3 at the moment but that’s easily solved I suppose. I do have Divinity: Original Sin 1&2 though, which are obviously of a similar ilk. I did start D:OS2 a few years back but that was one of the turn-based games I didn’t click with. Definitely worth considering.
@HallowMoonshadow similarly to my starting D:OS2 and not clicking with it, I did start Persona 5 some years ago and fell off it fairly quickly. I do remember actually quite liking the social/life management aspect of the game but struggled to connect with the turn-based combat.
Cheers for both of your inputs guys. As I’ve made mention to though, this struggle I’ve had to click with the turn-based aspects is what I’m hoping will be resolved somewhat during my upcoming recuperation.
I renewed my PS Plus Extra subscription for another year. I've been getting monthly subs for the last few months so I could take advantage of the next time they were on sale. Plus I had 70 quid in rewards vouchers from work left over, which I used for it.
