Topic: The Movie Thread

Last night I watched Batman Begins (Netflix).

It's been been years since I've watched this in full, and at the time I don't think I was focused enough on it to truly appreciate it (and as a result, the whole trilogy), so I figured it was about time to give it another shot.

I thought it was pretty darned good. I think you have to be in the mood for it (I don't think I could watch it on any given Saturday afternoon, like I could with many of the Marvel films), but when you are in that mood, it's a good watch.

last movie i watched was Road To Ninja: Naruto the Movie

I just saw Spectre in IMAX. It was fantastic. The plot, action, and acting are all great. The directing was beautiful too. Overall I'm very impressed. I highly recommend it. It makes me wish they made another James Bond game. I quite enjoyed Blood Stone, and a high quality Bond game would be amazing.

Last night I watched Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagaan: Gurren-Hen.

Pretty disappointing, TBH. I knew it was supposed to be sort of a reimagining of the first part of the series, which would have been fine, but other than the final conflict, it just mostly reuses footage from the TV series (which makes it feel extra rushed, since it doesn't move at a pace that was designed to be consumed in this medium).

Watched 'Man Up' with the wife. Needless to say its terrible, but serviceable to pass the time.

Tonight I watched Walt Disney Animated Classics Short Film Collection (Netflix).

I mainly just watched it so I could see Feast (last year's Oscar winner for best animated short film), but there were all sorts of various shorts with cool ideas, and I'd say it's a must watch for any animation fan (even the "worst" of the shorts I'd say is at least decent fun, if nothing else, while there are some that are absolutely brilliant as well).

The shorts are Feast, Frozen Fever, Goofy: How to Set up a Home Theater, John Henry, Legend of Nessie, Lorenzo, the Matchgirl, a Mickey Mouse one, Paperman, a Prep & Landing short (that I don't think has been shown on TV), Tangled Ever After, and Tick Tock (again, can't remember the last part of the name, but it was good).

Tonight I watched Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, and it's everything I wanted out of a new DBZ movie.

While Battle of Gods was a good time, I feel DBZ is at it's best when it's being more serious, and that's not something BoG really took inspiration from (it was tonally more in line with the sillier, more lighthearted Dragon Ball). Resurrection F on the other hand was DBZ through and through, and despite a few nitpicks (WTH did Roshi get that strong?), it was totally epic.

Since last I posted, I've watched Back in Time & Wolf Children.

Back in Time is a documentary about the making of Back to the Future, and how it has affected our culture. Pretty interesting if you're into the film like myself.

Wolf Children is an absolutely stunning anime film. It's about a woman who falls in love with a wolf man ('cause Japan), and how she raises their two children throughout the years. It's an absolute emotional rollercoaster, and is absolutely beautiful to look at. I'd say it has a very Ghibli-esque vibe, and even if you're not usually into anime, I'd recommend it.

Last night I watched The Admiral: Roaring Current (Netflix/Korean-Japanese language film).

A Korean film, set during one of the Japanese incursions into Korea during the 1500's. It centers around Korean admiral Yi Sun-Shin, who must find a way to repell a Japanese navy strong in both number & morale, with only 13 ships of his own.

The first half of the film has a lot of buildup (lots of strategy meetings on both sides, spying, etc.), but it really pays off, as the final hour is one long epic naval battle that never lets up.

A few nights ago we watched Home (Netflix).

It's that animated movie which features an alien (voiced by Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory) making friends with a human girl. Like pretty much everything else in Dreamworks' catalogue, it's decent fun if you're in the mood for an animated film, but it's not top tier level stuff.

I just saw Pixels. Honestly, I thought it was pretty good; it was really funny. It was exactly what I was expecting. A dumb movie that's funny and has fun nods to old games. I'm not really sure why it hated so much. Were people expecting something intelligent? A realistic take on if the scenario actually played out? Don't expect fine art and you should enjoy it.

Last night I watched American Wedding (Netflix).

I watched American Pie about a month ago & liked it, so I figured I'd check this out (Netflix doesn't have the second one, for whatever reason). It's just as crass & raunchy as the first one, but to humorous effect (and just like the first one, there's actually some heartwarming meaning/character growth behind it all).

Definitely only for appropriate audiences, though.

Watched American Sniper last week felt uncomfortable watching it. It was a but like a promotional video for the army. Also watched Han Gong Ju really great movie but very depressing subject matter it left me moved after watching it.

I watched Fantasia 2000 (Netflix) last night.

It was a pretty good time, I suppose. There weren't any shorts that I disliked, and overall I thought it was better than the first.

I watched Darkman on Netflix and it was interesting

It was created by Sam Raimi (who did the first Spiderman Trilogy) in the early 90's to prove to the studio that he could do a Superhero flick after several studios passed him by for The Shadow and the 89 Batman.

It's dark like the 89 Batman and you can definitely see where The Shadow and Batman were influences. It's a bit cheesy at times but over all a good action flick. If you like dark gritty Superhero flicks then I suggest this one.

I just watched Top Five, Chris Rock's latest movie. Really funny and well written. Possibly his best movie to date. It's up on Hulu.

Finally got around to seeing Captain America Winter Solider (I know I am slow) and I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was and the twists in it OMG. Now I just need to watch Age of Ultron.

I saw a comedy called Hot Rod on Netflix. It's about a lose likes to be a stuntman. It's super dumb, but it was really funny.
