Starship Troopers: Extermination — a first-person adaptation of the cult classic movie series — is bringing the fight to PS5 on the 11th October. Primarily a co-op, objective-based shooter, Extermination will launch with a 25-mission single-player campaign when it comes to consoles. And apparently, more single-player missions will be added post-launch.
The campaign actually stars main character Johnny Rico from the first 1997 film (and a couple of the sequels), voiced by his original actor, Casper Van Dien. A nice touch.
The game has been in early access on PC since last May, and it's done rather well for itself, garnering positive user reviews. From what we understand, it can be a little rough around the edges, but the hope is that everything will be smoothed out for the 1.0 release.

It’s funny Helldivers copied alot of what starship troopers was about. now Starship Troopers look like it’s ripping off Helldivers now
16 player co-op sounds interesting
I would like to know more.
Hah someone looked at Helldivers then who’s already looked at starship troopers
@BeerIsAwesome That comment, much like the film itself, will quite possibly go over a lot of people's heads
Helldivers is barely 4 months old and it's already getting copycats.
I'd buy that for a dollar. (Close enough)
@AdamNovice Helldivers is copying Starship Troopers though. This might be the one singular case where it's okay.
Oof, seems like this one's a pretty solid experience that has been in development for a while.
Must've stung when Helldivers 2 got that kind of reception lol. Or maybe that's a good sign for this game as well
@yazzika Thank you...that was the joke.
This is crazy, because Helldivers was inspired by this franchise. Curious to see how they compare.
The addition of singleplayer is a big plus for me.
@AdamNovice Starship Troopers: Extermination was in early access on PC last year in May. So it's already been out for longer than Helldivers 2. So it's not a copy.
If I had not bought and invested time into Helldivers already I would have bought this for sure!
@AdamNovice
You're going to have to be a little more subtle with the sarcasm.....
Seems to be shooting straight over everyones heads🤣
@AdamNovice Starship Troopers Extermination was out before Helldivers. Plus every single bit of content in Helldivers is ripped off something else.
Dissapointing to see this co op game have a single player campaign.
@aabalas it's not ripped. It's inspired by. Two very different things.
Dang first person shooters give me motion sickness. Pretty please give us an option to play in third person please. Adore the movie.
@Bamila i enjoy Helldivers but they are most definitely ripped when you dont have your own ideas as well. The Automatons and soon to come "Protoss" have all been seen elsewhere. Not gonna stop me from playing though either.
@trev666 this starship troopers game has been in early access for nearly 2 years on PC. When Helldivers blew up a few months ago this game’s subreddit was seriously pissed off.
Someone is making singleplayer fps??? Did someone understood what world desperately need??? Yes, there is issue with that co-op mode, so game will be heavily unbalanced, but still...
I love Helldivers and it’s really unfortunate for this game as it looks cool but not as good as Helldivers IMO. The single player might pull me into this as if it’s good it’ll swing it into the purchase list, one to watch for sure.
@AdamNovice ah damn. Sorry then. Can't be sure anymore with all the new generations coming in that don't watch or read stuff thats not on Netflix.
Hoping this is an amazing experience like starship troopers 1 and not a depressing nightmare filmed inside satan's butthole like starship troopers 2.
Wouldn't suprise me if the game is full of bugs on release.
