In many ways, Star Wars Outlaws is another Ubisoft game, with many of the same systems and mechanics you’ll already be familiar with – but that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive. This game appears to have some of the most densely populated, gorgeously detailed sandbox environments we’ve seen on PS5 to date – and if you don’t believe us, just check out the trailer embedded above.
There’s so much to like here, from the small details like the playable arcade minigames through to the seamless space exploration and land-based traversal. Even the user interface, with its surprisingly beautiful fonts, deserves a mention. But yes, we should also point out, you will be engaging in familiar activities: clearing outposts and uncovering map markers – you know the drill.
The blurb reads: “Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct locations across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy's crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted.”
It adds: “Take on high-risk, high-reward missions from the galaxy's crime syndicates. Steal valuable goods, infiltrate secret locations, and outwit enemies as one of the galaxy's most wanted. Every choice you make influences your ever-changing reputation. Pilot your ship, the Trailblazer, as you engage in thrilling dogfights with The Empire and other foes. Find the right opportunities to chase, evade, and attack to get the upper hand.”
Impressive stuff, eh?

I think this looks amazing, personally.
This is what I've been looking for in a Star Wars game for a long time in having the original trilogy locations and setting and a mixture of gameplay styles, almost like a modern day Shadows of The Empire, I'm looking forward to this one
This looks so much fun!
Yeah it looks really great. Honestly kind of crazy to think there really hasn't been a Star Wars game like this. Looking forward to it!
Looks fantastic! I don’t think it’s so much like Ubisoft-format fatigue that’s around at the moment, but more like Far Cry and Assassins Creed fatigue, because I’m more than happy for that tried and tested formula to be applied to other IPs.
Well, this is not PS5 gameplay at all.
That whole presentation really turned me around on the game. Looking like a Day 1 buy for me now!
It looks super cool to be honest. Very much an original trilogy product too.
The Space combat looked fun and the gunplay looked cool. Kind of want to see a more in depth video of the combat. I'm definitely going to play this in August right before Astro Bot.
This looks so good! It's basically what I wanted from Starfield 😂 very impressed with the visuals and performance.
I hate how easily I am manipulated with some good choice gameplay footage. It's embarrassing how much of a stan I am now for this game after this showcase. I went from "wait and see" to "day one". I am using all my willpower to wait for early impressions from gaming websites and not pre-ordering.
@get2sammyb I concur. I was really into the Claire Obscur: Expedition 33 & Phantom Blade 0, but SW:O might just be the most impressed I’ve been over SGF.
This looks really promising. It seems there has been some hands on sessions for some media, Skill Up has a video uploaded with his impressions so bound to be others.
I’m not even the biggest Stars Wars fan but I like what I see here.
@MikeOrator Starfield burned me pretty good, as badly as I want to play this, I'm going to let it sit for a month
Not climbed any Ubisoft towers in quite a while so count me in!
This is easily my most anticipated game for the rest of the year. It's a rare Ubisoft game that I'm actually considering getting on release day. I know that sounds stupid, but it's not to me.
@KilloWertz
You don't sound any stupider than anybody else in these comments. I am surprised at the positive reception this game is getting for some weird reason.
Eurogamers headline:
After a worryingly dated hands-on with Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft's galactic open world feels less exciting than expected
A long time ago...
Another case of too much a vertical slice? Or click bait, moanathon?
Personally I'm done with Star Wars. Just doesn't excite me anymore.
Nah, not for me.. So burned out by Ubisoft tbh
This looks soooo good
This one does Look like a lot of just good old fashioned gaming fun.
I think it looks nice and also quite refreshing to see a Star Wars game where your main character is not a Jedi.
Too bad WB patented the Nemesis system...and then never used it again. This kind of game seems perfect for such a system to be implemented.
Showing off way more of this game convinced me to get it sooner than later, so it will be a great Birthday gift to me
What's up with the letterbox presentation?
I'm loving the seamless transition when entering a planet's atmosphere to land.
@ATaco ***** em for doing that. It is such a good concept and probay one of the more innovative gameplay additions of last gen
It is fascinating to read EG and then this site. Both previews are the opposite. EG straight up called the game dated and not that good. Push Square loves it. I guess this one will come down to reviews
This looks better and better every time they show it off.
Pump this directly into my brain, please 😁
I don't care if it's "dated" to some, it's a crime blockbuster set in freaking Star Wars made by people who seem to love the source material and universe. Willing to forgive some shortcomings to enjoy the hell out of it
@JB_Whiting It’s to evoke the visual style of the original movies. It’s interesting to me, aspect ratio isn’t tinkered with in games in the same way as it is with movies.

Clickbaity title given the gameplay seems to be on PC through an Xbox Controller, that being said though I'm liking what I'm seeing of this, especially given my overall enjoyment with Massive's previous works in The Division 1/2 and Avatar FoP, I'm probably a lot more optimistic than many for this.
I’m good with letting this one hit the bargain bin, just like AC Shadows.
Impressive or not, I ain't buying if it's not on steam. Ubisoft store sucks.
@Totheteeth even I don't really take them too seriously but it is just fascinating to see such a negative preview and the next site you check is glowing and ecstatic.
Oh man, I’m so disappointed — I was happy to not have any new releases this year that I was excited about and now I totally want this! It looks brilliant. Maybe some GTA meets Starfield meets Mass Effect meets Cyberpunk meets Uncharted meets Hogwarts Legacy…? All with a Star Wars coat of paint. Seems like a huge and rich gaming world.
@MikeOrator the weird reason you are surprised might be that people are being positive. Not much of that going around.
Or did you mean that the positive reaction surprises you? That's a different thing. In that case, people tastes are different. I hope that helps.
Looks fun. I doubt I will pick it up day one. I'll probably be slogging through some other open world, and Ubisoft soft is gross.
I just hope it won't actually require the PS5 Pro to look this good...
The scene of night on Tattooine really got me.
Damn......that looks good...
The constant use of the word scoundrel in promotional stuff is starting to grate. Sort of like how every PR guy needs to say 'Merc with a Mouth' at least 3 times a sentence when talking about Deadpool.
@Th3solution I'm with you on that! For a long time I was so happy that there were very few games to look forward to, so that I could concentrate on my backlog, then this comes along and ruins everything
I really wasn’t expecting this game to look this fun, I went from thinking I’ll grab it eventually to possibly grabbing it day one.
Surprisingly this looks interesting...
@LikelySatan
It's the positive attitude that surprises me. There are usually more people being negative about anything for any reason.
Meh, both this and Shadows are looking like bargain deal purchases.
