It's always nice to highlight a really promising indie project, and we like to think that The Precinct fits the bill. We actually wrote about this one a whole 12 months ago, but now it has a PS5 release date. The top-down police sim arrives on the 15th August.
Basically, you play as a cop in a city that's made up of procedurally generated crime. One minute you're handing out parking tickets, the next you're gunning down armed bank robbers or tail-ending maniacs off the freeway.
You can catch some gameplay in the above launch date trailer, but we think this overview video from developer Fallen Tree Games provides a better idea of what the title's all about:

Looks genuinely interesting. If it's all done in real time, which it looks like it is, it could provide a really interesting complement to American Fugitive, which is another crime-related game from this camera perspective. Obviously if it isn't real-time, it'll draw comparisons to Empire Of Sin or Omerta: City Of Gangsters.
“GTA-inspired indie game”
Shut up and take my money!
Yes this looks awesome. I’m intrigued
Good shot kid, you got em!
Holy crap, awesome eerie vibe. Reminds me of PS3 days when games had style.
Finally some other studio taking on GTA game design. We need more of this, more LA Noire, more Agent! I still have hope
Not gonna lie, this looks really really good. Another great example of why people shouldn't overlook indies.
Gonna wishlist it and see what happens with it. Looks really quite nice, could be interesting for casual gaming with no script to follow for the day to day crime and investigations
Love the top down view and 80's vibe. I'll put it on my wishlist.
Looks good to me
This looks brilliant, definitely getting this. Would be great to have a UK version too.
Wow,where did this come from? Will wait for the reviews, but it is almost certain purchase.
Also, offline play enables. Good lads.
P.s. what happened to "slow year for games" August and September are piling up
It doesn't look very GTA inspired. Realistic policing does not make a good game.
Same devs as American Fugitive, which was a fantastic game. If you're on the fence, get off it and give this game a chance.
I’m looking forward to unleashing parking ticket mayhem onto the citizens of whatever the city is named
Interesting. Not sure if it's a day one buy, but a game I'll be paying attention to.
If it was third person instead of over head, I probably would have been interested in trying it out.
I'm genuinely excited for this. As someone who plays Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, it'll be nice to have a police game that's more...gamey, then simulation.
@Golem25 AF was way better than I thought it would be. It just needed more of its own identity. Looking forward to this one.
One of my favorite games of all time is Chinatown Wars. I know it's probably a hate crime now but I love that game. I've always preferred the top down GTA style. Very into this. I hate the idea of playing as a cop, but hey, Sleeping Dogs exists, so it can be accomplished.
Very "Hill Street Blues" - looks very good.
I've added it to my wishlist.
@Fortysixter_uk game looks dull to me, RoboCop is far more fun than this anyways, I'm having a blast with it
One of my favourite games growing up was the Police Quest series by Sierra. I always liked the idea of a game where you had to know and follow police procedure. Have always been interested in playing a similar type of game and this looks the most appealing of the various ones that have come out over the years...I'll be keeping an eye out for this
I hope it has a ton of 80s nostalgia and pop culture references.
