As long as there are players still logging in, Ubisoft will provide content for them. Skull and Bones may not have set the sales charts alight, then, but the French publisher remains committed to the sailing sim’s roadmap, with a fair amount of new content on the way. Season 2, available now, centres on a new narrative arc, featuring two so-called Sea Lords in the form of the Hubac Twins. It also adds a new megalodon sea monster, an additional boat, and various events and activities to keep you occupied.
It'll be followed by Season 3, which is bringing an actual dragon to the mix as a new sea monster, as well as a brand new 5v5 competitive multiplayer mode. You can also expect fresh activities, rewards, and more. So, lots to look forward to if you’re still sailing the high seas, then – clearly this hasn’t been the most successful Ubisoft release ever, but we liked it quite a lot in our Skull and Bones PS5 review.

(Most) games: Instead of going a "realistic" route which would make them so much better and more interesting (Setting, movement, characters etc), they always go the dumb "fantasy" route. More color, more magic dust, more unrealistic stuff, zzzz
The more I see if this game the more intrigued I become. Might be worth a punt it just takes good plentiful content 👌
@Frmknst I dunno, realistic can be pretty boring too!
What makes a AAAA game:
I got an email that said I could play skull and bones for free up to 8 hours, there were no end date mentioned. So I assumed it didn't have an expiry date. But when I click the link now, it says the link has expired and there's no option to play for free in the store. This email was sent in February. Then another was sent in May and this had an expiration date, which stated you could play for free from 30th May to 6th June.
I still haven't played it. They should let us play the trial without an expiration date and limit to 8 hours like they said with the first email. I'd probably play for like an hour tho, just wanna see how it is.
@Frmknst I guess that makes me dumb because I like the dumb fantasy stuff with colour, magic and all that.
@Czar_Khastik don’t forget a botchy, 11-year development cycle!
@NinjaNicky
So Elden Ring, Baldur’s gate 3, the Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild all look the same to you? I’m glad I don’t see the world the way you do.
@get2sammyb you're right, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is probably the most realistic game I've ever played...and I found it to be no fun at all.
@NinjaNicky
I don't like that we call those games JRPGS now. In my old brain a JRPG is a turn based games, not souls-like that we get so many of nowadays.
@ATaco
I agree.
JRPGs should have an Anime look, Wifus and Husbandos, weird haircuts, only enough sexual innuendo and implied nudity to ensure they can still get a teen rating, and course turn-based combat.
They don't need blood, guts, actual nudity, or souls-bourne gameplay mechanics. Not that there is anything wrong with these games either they are just not JRPGs to me.
Game design 101: If it's not selling, add dragons.
@MikeOrator @ATaco @NinjaNicky Nobody considers "souls-like" a "JRPG". Souls-like has become it's own genre. Game trailers even state "souls-like" right in the trailer.
The bigger question is what is FFXVI where the director declares the "J" to be "racist", the game isn't an RPG, it's basically a light-semi-souls-like semi hack and slash with very mild RPG-lite elements. Yet the press calls it an "action RPG" of which it really also isn't. (I say that as a fan of the game, but refuse to call it FF. I still say it should be called "FF Stories: A Very Good Boy & Torgal")
I have the same issue though. I'm not into souls, attack, dodge, attack, dodge, and I also get interested in many shown games only to find out it's yet ANOTHER souls-like. I thought it was just the PS crowd that obsessed over them, but the Xbox show was full of them too. That's the problem with the creative industry. Once it's an industry it can't be creative. I do kinda like Elden Ring though.
"screw it, throw some dragons in to see if that works"
