In news that probably shouldn't be surprising but remains mildly interesting, Rockstar's GTA Trilogy has surpassed 30 million downloads on streaming service Netflix. Who would have thought that iconic games, made so readily available, would be played so widely?
Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas arrived on the platform in December, and they can be downloaded with a Netflix subscription and a compatible phone or tablet. The arrival of Rockstar's stone-cold classics immediately spiked Netflix's nascent gaming undertaking, tripling monthly mobile game downloads, largely thanks to the games listed (thanks, Eurogamer).
Halfway through the year now, according to data compiled by mobilegamer.biz, more than 30 million people have downloaded these games so far, mostly in the U.S. on Apple devices. Most players opted to return to Grove Street; San Andreas racked up 20.5m downloads, Vice City 6.5m, and GTA 3 a respectable 3.3m.
