Update: Sony has now restored normal service to all aspects of the PlayStation Network, with the relevant page stating: "All services are up and running." The temporary outage across select parts of PSN lasted roughly two to three hours.
Original story: Sony is currently investigating a series of PSN errors that have taken some features of its online services offline, or are providing issues at the very least. The PSN network service status page is flagging errors across account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation store on PS5 and PS4.
Each category carries a similar message from Sony support: "You might have difficulty signing in or creating an account for PlayStation Network. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience." All these problems were picked up as of 15:46 BST. It's a similar story on the Down Detector website, where a couple of thousand reports of PSN being offline have come in within the last half an hour or so.
We'll update this article once normal service is resumed on PSN. For now, Sony says it's aware of the flaws affecting the online service and is actively investigating.

Good to see the extra money going into the subscriptions is being used to improve stars and the overall online experience. 🙄
@ATaco Still can't believe PS Stars is still down. What exactly happened for it to be out of service for this long?
@TheTraditional Someone must've tripped over the power cable, pulled it out, and shipped it to the moon. It's so weird.
Looks like I chose a good day to take a break from ZPSN
@LordServbot you joke about a cord being pulled but I know someone that did just that and a certain network, that I won’t identify for the sake of keeping my anonymity, got shutdown for 24 hours and made international news. It isn’t as simple as plugging the cable back in as these networks are only meant to go down after specific safeguards are taken and putting it back online means fixing a lot of things that are now out of whack.
If only there was some way to play games offline! But that would involve not having live service in every game.
Weird, my PS1 works just fine
Detective Sony at it again. Hope they solve this mystery. Jinkies!
@ATaco Haha, they know what they say:
Sony.. this is for the p(l)ayers.
For real though, the lack of commitment and loyalty to their own fans is worrying - Nintendo is also quite hostile towards their fans.. I really wonder why.
@TheTraditional yes lets hope this gets sorted alot quicker than the 3 weeks and counting that PlayStation stars has been down
I'm guessing the team that they sent to investigate PS Stars got lost deep inside the SIE servers, until now when they have finally found a way to escape, but in doing so have severed an important connection that has brought the rest of PSN down.
But at least those guys have begun the unshrinking process and can resume a somewhat normal existence with the help of some counselling and support from those close to them.
Now it's up to SIE Team 2 to shrink down and go and fix both issues in their place. Don't make the same mistake, we are all pulling for you
Maybe they patched PSN to have the same stability update Stars got?
Requiring PSN for PC games is absolutely a fantastic idea. What could possibly go wrong?
@ATaco PSN has been incredibly reliable over the last 5-10 years. To the point that I think Xbox Live has possibly had more issues this gen.
Sony have come a long way in network uptime and service quality compared to the old days. Sure Stars is still busted but the core PSN/Now platform has seen plenty of network investment over the years. Or does PS5 game streaming and increased European streaming rollout (where many countries never had streaming until this gen) not count as investing sub money into servers?
@LowDefAl
"Sure Stars is still busted"
Why are we so quickly sweeping that under the rug like it's an afterthought? It's not like this service has been gone for a day or two, it's been a long while with no updates or communication and it's a service that a few of us would take advantage of to feel rewarded for purchasing games. Weird how all the things that are pro consumer take forever to be repaired or looked at.
I am bashing Sony quite often, but I think they improved upon the download speed and the network uptime quite notably.
My PS5 downloads faster then my X Series X, so all good.
Good job Sony. All that money subscribers worked hard for was really put to good use.
@ATaco I personally think it's been a hack, or a ransom demand of.some kind for ps stars. Also they keep saying no one will loose points etc but I suspect when it comes back they will blanket give everyone 500 points or something, and ask people to contact directly if they have bought a game in the time period rather than them automatically add. It's going to be a ***** show I recon!
@SoulChimera lol 😂
@Blofse " a ransom demand of.some kind for ps stars."
Was somebody THAT upset to have missed out on their Jimbo digital bobblehead?
@NEStalgia maybe! Or for missing out on their PSN voucher
@Czar_Khastik I played on my PS5 for several hours today. I didn’t even know.
@Maubari
Companies are only nice and giving to the fans when their backs are against the wall and want something, like increased sales.
Sony and Nintendo are at the top of tree, they not bothered that much.
Ps stars are not rewarding some points I checked mine haven't received all points for my purchases
Man people sure do like to overreact.
My bad! I was just downloading a TB of games...
The day has been saved
I wasn't aware that PSN was down. At least nothing bad happened.
They really need to restore PS Stars already... <_<
@TheTraditional I'm with ya. I find it more annoying that Sony assume they can just stay silent on it. Answer your fans.
its s club 7 fault song reach for the stars theres no more left for game players
What is wrong with this company?
I'm not surprised the amount of fake friend requests and messages I get and Sony does nothing about them and there's no way of reporting them
@PloverNutter That's crazy, man. Yeah, I know it's a bit more involved with server systems and such. The modern tech age is wild and complex.
@ATaco I think if everyone just stopped buying digital until they fixed the stars scheme, it might give Sony more incentive to sort it out quicker? Just a thought.
PS Plus subscribers getting truly the best experience this month, what with a poor selection of already cheap to buy free games, Stars still down and service outages. Good job Sony. Next thing is they'll tell us they got hacked again 😁
Yesterday late evening around 2:45am i got unknowned error messages when trying to buy a game on pstore, directly on ps5.
I tried a few times and was able to buy one game, but it was too late to keep try for another i was thinking to get, mafia 1 remastered on sale.
So i missed the sale, im guessing there's no way to ask Sony to let me get it now at the sale price..
Xbox has been down today as well, 3 hours so far and no fix yet so atleast playstations was a quick fix.
I couldn't log into Xbox Live for over 3 hours today.
