After nearly a full month of downtime, Sony has announced its PS Stars rewards program is "returning soon in phased regional rollouts". The mobile PS App is now displaying a new message when the PS Stars icon is selected on the home screen that reads: "PlayStation Stars will be returning soon in phased regional rollouts. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back."
According to the PS Stars page on Reddit, select Asian territories may already have regained access to the service. The USA, UK, and Europe will likely be given access once again in the coming days.
There have been contradicting posts from the PlayStation support team over whether points totals will have remained intact, and whether purchases made by members during the downtime will be reimbursed. Active users will likely be hoping for some sort of compensation due to the outage, but we'll have to wait until availability is rolled out to major territories and then compare and contrast points from before and after to see if much has changed. I've been waiting to purchase Astro Bot until this came back online. I want my points.
They need to add it to the console itself.
That’s welcome news. While it will be nice to start earning points with purchases again, I kind of missed the little missions that had me rummaging through my backlog or trying out a game I would have normally passed over.
I wonder if a firmware update is due soon? If so it might explain why it's taken awhile.
Hopefully it comes back with some sort of added feature set. Surely they had it down so long so they could enhance it somehow….?
And yes, how about a nice freebie bonus for everyone for our inconvenience like they did with that massive PSN outage a few years ago. 😄
I'm really wondering what caused such a long downtime for something like this.
I have a strong feeling that they either won’t offer or I won’t have enough points to redeem
that 20$ gift card anymore
Has Nintendo's gold coin program or Microsoft points ever been out of commission for a month without communication?
@sonicmeerkat Never, it’s ridiculous enough that the service was out for a month but made even worse but Sony’s baffling lack of communication.
It's about time something was said about this.
Seems to be back in a lot of Asian countries and people are reporting points have been updated as per purchases made during downtime.
Woohoo. I can soon resume getting a couple of digital collectibles and no points since I'm not a digital only gamer and play what I want to play.
first thing i will do is cash out my points if they have taken my points off me i will be pretty angry
I doubt we'll ever get a clear first-hand explanation as to why it was taken down for a month, but it must have been a significant enough issue for them to do it in the middle of a major promo campaign.
About bloody time Sony
Well, if they bring it back by noon tomorrow they'll get a few purchases from me for sure. Fingers crossed!
Everyone will get their points. People are stressing for no reason.
"Phased regional rollouts"? What on earth has gone on over there? Did some miscreants encrypt their database or something?
@trev666 cute angy noises cat meme
I hope things went bought whilst it was down still translate to points
@SoulChimera
That's the right way to handle this. Anything less would have been unacceptable.
@JohntheRaptor Don't they always?
Not gonna lie, I stopped making purchases on the PS Store cause of this Stars outage lol
So it's down forever and then comes back in a "regional rollout" but nothing is wrong, do not panic, just another day....
I can only assume someone found an exploit that let them accumulate lots of points so the took it down.
Meh i remember the great psn outage, i aint mad. Though just highlights to me how piss poor it is compared to m$ rewards.
Apparently no one used this when it was available. But for some odd reason everyone cried about it being down when it’s not available… 🤔
I kind of hoped they would at least explain why this happened. And what they’re implementing so that another employee doesn’t fidget around with the rewards system to a point where there is another outtage.
It's working in Asia right now
The Chinese take less time to build a skyscraper.
@AhmadSumadi
I think most people couldn't care less about all the digital collectibles and challenges, but getting points back on digital purchases to go towards future ones is a benefit.
My Japanese account is now back up on the mobile app, with points added for purchases made while the system was down.
I just hope I still have the same points that I had before and they didn't just suddenly jump the points needed for a psn card. It was 1250 points for a $5 psn card. I believe I had around ~1400 points.
