In a new episode of the Metal Gear: Production Hotline series on YouTube, Konami has revealed a brief look at how the camo and healing systems of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have been upgraded over the original. Detailed in the video above, both features go significantly more in-depth than the PS2 version, with visible marks left on Big Boss' body and clothing.
For the camo system specifically, it's said that "falling leaves will stick to your clothes", crawling through mud "leaves stains", and you'll notice "tears and bullet holes" in your clothing after taking damage. These little details all appear in "realtime, based on your gameplay".
Then there's the cure mechanic, which in the original game allowed you to treat Big Boss' wounds by applying the right ointments and bandages. This feature has been updated to where even after healing Big Boss, scars will be left behind on his body. Continuing further into the video, you'll learn more about the updated controls and new visual filters.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has looked better and better with every new trailer and update from Konami, but we are still without a release date. It was hoped the game would release this year, but with the Summer Game Fest season now passed, it seems unlikely a 2024 launch is on the cards. 2025 seems a safe bet at this point.

Holy crap this looks stunning. I'm actually impressed. Some very Kojima like details in here
I'm very happy with how it's shaping up so far. Looks really good! Unreal Engine 5 sure can put out some seriously impressive visuals.
This is making me want to play MGS V now lol
My favourite game series but only really love MGS 1-4 and the Acid games. It's sacred territory that could easily be mismanaged, but this is looking more and more promising.
@pumpkin_head no love for metal gear rising ?
Curious what the FPS will be because I’ve read comments in other posts that say current consoles can’t handle UE5 at 60fps.
Really interested in this after hearing they have updated controls. Can't wait for the mgs 1 remake, going pretty epic returning to shadow Moses
It looks cool. LOOKS. But then, The Twin Snakes LOOKED cool in previews too.
I'm still firmly in the "No Kojima, No MGS" camp. Happy to be proven wrong, but that man is an almost unique talent. In a world of cookie-cutter, paint by numbers games, he is one of the few that still puts out art. I have this strange feeling in my bones that this'll be a 7/10 game.
Can't watch the video but the article only gives examples of visual enhancements, not anything that would affect gameplay. That's not exactly updated systems.
The legacy filter looks pretty good. Can't wait to play this. I hope the game isn't too easy with the updated controls as what happened with Twin Snakes.
Wow those new details sound amazing.
Really cannot wait for this, looks Konami have done a great job of it
There are 3 metal gear games I wish got this type of remake Metal Gear Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake and Portable Ops.
Feel a bit of nostalgia looking at the screenshots of the menu. Spent a lot of time playing MGS3 back in the day.
I'm really hoping this remake is good.
@LifeGirl that's my concern as well - No Kojima.
MGS was one of Konami's biggest IPs. After their divorce with Kojima, they tried to push MGS along without him and we got MGS Survive...
This remake feels like they've realized they don't know how to progress the MGS saga further and make a great MGS game without Kojima, so they've resorted to rereleases aka copying his homework, but adding things in unnecessarily to make it less apparent that it's still Kojimas MGS3 that they're copying.
I'm not sure why the guy who wrote this article kept calling Snake "Big Boss"? Big Boss is a completely different character in this game.
they have a lot to prove still. not getting excited until the reviews come in.
@Capril
Because Naked Snake is Big boss and this is set when he earns the title.
Also their isn’t a Big Boss in this game, The Joy is called Boss or The Boss not big boss
i think this looks great mgs3 was one of my favorite games , also i feel like if this does well they'll remake the first game which is already rumored. if you notice there is no 3 in the title i feel like they did that on purpose for future remakes.
@WhiteRabbit hopefully the pro is out by then
RE remakes and the like have conditioned to expect remakes to have completely different gameplay styles that it’s honestly both refreshing and very pleasing to see this stick to the original as much as it can.

that actually reminded that this is technically the first mainline game (even if it’s a remake) without Kojima himself. I’m actually really curious how this will turn out.
Never played any metal gears as it’s usually not my thing . I might try to give it a go but isn’t number 3 the one with hours and hours of cutscenes ??
I thought when they said "improved", they put a shortcut for the Camo system like you can change your camo without open up the main menu. One of my main complaint for og MGS 3 is you need to open the main menu every time you want to change the camo and that kinda ruin the pace. Although Kojima update it with MGS 4 where Snake can copy every texture with his OctoCamo suit which is really awesome.
And are these bullet holes or falling leaves stick to the clothes after crawling through muds are just cosmetics only or it will affect the gameplay too like less Camo percentage or something?
@kailun MGS 3 has total 3.5 hours of cutscenes which you can skip all of them but you will missed out a lot of cool action scenes and important story info.
But what you mean probably MGS 4 with total of 7 hours and 55 minutes of cutscenes.
"Realistic" details like that would be so great if the actual game was also serious/realistic but you know.. Those characters, names, looks, hiding under a box, awful voice acting etc...
@Frmknst say something positive challenge… impossible
@Frmknst Awful voice acting? MGS series actually set the gold standard for Japanese games with solid (no pun intended) English voice acting. After MGS 1, more and more Japanese publishers put more effort for their English dubbing & localization.
@Capril because Big Boss is the main character in MGS3. I don't know why you're trying to correct people if you don't understand the topic
@Korgon It's the traversal stuttering, and shader compliation issues that always seem to crop up but I have the original on PS3 still never played it
@IamJT yup, it's the same old same old from them. Yet, they think they know what's considered "art" regarding videogames.
@LifeGirl twin snakes was cool and kojima also gave it his blessing.
@WhiteRabbit yea I saw the website 🤣
@Ainu20 yeah, I hope they redo the entire camo and first aid mechanics because these were just bad gameplay elements.
@PuppetMaster ah, it must be 4 then. In all for good storylines , that connect gameplay segments together , but too much is too much. 3 isn’t bad as that is just above the uncharted series lengths in total I think.
