It may be an indictment of a particularly slow period for big new releases, but it’s still no less impressive to see Ghost of Tsushima top the USA sales charts for the period spanning 5th May through 1st June. The legendary Sucker Punch title jumped 70 places month-over-month on the back of the game’s PC release, proving Sony’s porting strategy is sound.
Sales were down three per cent year-over-year, largely due to unfavourable comparisons with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 2023. Still, PlayStation enjoyed a steady month, with Helldivers 2 continuing to perform in fourth position, and MLB The Show 24 proving yet again that it’s the dark horse of Sony’s first-party selection in fifth place.
Stellar Blade took an unsurprising tumble from first place down to tenth position, but it’s still a respectable result for the Shift Up release in its second month. Elsewhere, Sea of Thieves continued to float following its hugely successful PS5 release, while Rise of the Ronin once again showed it’s something of a dark horse, enjoying yet another month in the charts.
As has become consistent for quite some time now, PS5 was the best-selling console, ranked both by units and revenue accrued. We’ve included the relevant rankings for various software sales categories below.

You could say they really... sucker punched those sales charts...
Thank you good night.
Good to see Dragon's Dogma 2 sneak in there 😉
Yet another successful franchise for Capcom to print money with.
I laughted at that face more than I should’ve.
The guys who don't want to make a PSN account got Sucker Punched lol.
I'm happy to see Rise of the Ronin getting numbers and Helldivers still a top seller.
Glad to see helldivers 2 stay in the top ten, I expect a jump in sales when the next faction is announced/released. Ghost must have had a great PC launch to be number one, great game.
So that whinging about creating a PSN account didn't get far.
Theres accounts for every other publisher to be made even on pc. If u are making a ubisoft or xbox account then yeah you can be quiet about need for psn account. If u doing so for trash you can do so for the best
Pretty amazing to see, pretty much, a PC game (let alone a PC port of an "old" console game) actually #1 in the charts. Let alone a PC port of an "old" console game ahead of a Mario release. A brave new world indeed.
@NEStalgia said Mario game is 20 yrs old. If it was a completely new Mario game, the story would be different.
Classic? Let's not get carried away. Game came out in 2020.
@Savage_Joe @NEStalgia It's a turn based RPG and digital sales aren't accounted for, 2nd for TTYD is impressive.
I struggle to understand HD2 selling silo well and dwindling player count just as fast? Gotta be a PC player purge due to PSN account nonsense.
@NEStalgia I think I read that TTYD generally did like 8-10% worst than last years Super Mario RPG and did have a worst launch than Origami King too.
I am european and play MLB The Show 24. I might be the only one.
Good to see Stellar Blade, Spidey 2, and RotR are still selling. But i'm surprised for GoT though which i'm curious if that just PC version or PS4+PS5 version also got a big sales boost. It's definitely impressive though and well deserved. Last time Sony announced back in July 2022 that GoT has sold 9.73 million copies. So right now possibly the game already pass 10 million copies.
And Helldivers 2 is still selling well after all the review bomber from PC mustard race about the needs for PSN account and some gaming media gave the doom and gloom headline just because it doesn't have 450K players on Steam anymore is just funny af 🤣
I bought it after the disappointing (and reasons I will not get into)showing for the new Creed. I also will get Ronin after. I wonder if others did that as well causing the boost.
N.i.c.e. ghost of tsushima is a masterpiece.glad to see the instant classic dragon dogma back in the top 10.word up son
@Savage_Joe @Grumblevolcano " It's a turn based RPG"
Digital sales not counting is definitely a big deal though especially when comparing to..........pc digital sales.....
It's 20 years old but got is 4 years old. There's a lot more current gamers that never played ttyd that's been out of print for 15 years than got that's been on ps discount for the past 4 years. And it's Mario Post Pratt. And anything on switch sells. Redfall would sell on switch. So still a big moment.
@Rmg0731 I would 100% agree with you if you could create a Playstation account in most countries of the world, like you can easily do with Xbox, Ubisoft, EA, etc. But you can't, at least not until Sony decides to get their act together.
@NEStalgia Bringing up turn based RPG was about the age point. NSMB is about the same age as TTYD but a NSMB remake naturally would sell more than the TTYD remake because NSMB is a platformer.
@Grumblevolcano And Confused Pikachu's point is that a turn based RPG on Nintendo platforms is the number one selling franchise of all time. Yeah a turn based jrpg is never going to be tops on PC or Xbox.... And probably not PS either in the modern AmeriStation era, but Nintendo? Turn based already outsells Mario platformers with Pokemon.
I completed the PS5 version of GoT last month for the first time. A truly brilliant game. Loved the art, story , combat and general vibe. Wonderful stuff
GoT was a great game, glad to see Sony’s strategy of moving 1st party titles to PC long after console is still working for them.
@NEStalgia Ghost of Tsushima beat physical Origami King sales in July 2020.

About your point regarding Pokemon, of course it's a turn based RPG franchise that always does insanely well. Doesn't mean you should expect similar success from other turn based RPGs.
The reviews for the Kaneda Castle Ruins on Tsushima Island are quite entertaining. Check it out next time you are on Google Earth. Actually it might have been Google Maps that I was viewing. Not sure if reviews are on Earth.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah, but that was a brand new game releasing on PS4 at the peak of PS4 vs a B-tier Mario game, not a PC port of an old PS4 game beating a reissue of a "classic" Mario game.
Though IMO it sounds like TTYD underperformed in ways I would not have expected given how celebrated it is, how long the port has been begged for, and the Mario appeal to multiple new generations that never played it that owns Switch. Its performance is very un-Switch-like. Maybe the magic of Switch has ended. That bodes ill for Switch 2.
"proving Sony’s porting strategy is sound"
It proves this is a sound near-term tactic to increase revenue. But I'm still convinced it's a bad long-term strategy as it weakens the platform's appeal.
