Capcom has out of nowhere announced its giving the classic open world zombie game Dead Rising a second remaster, with a release set for this year. Officially named Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, the game originally launched as an Xbox 360 exclusive in 2006 before receiving a basic remaster 10 years later on PS4. This new Deluxe Remaster appears to be a more substantial overhaul given the name. Check out the announcement trailer above.
Footage focuses on Frank West's arrival at Willamette Parkview Mall, and perhaps the main standout is the protagonist has a new voice actor. We don't know who yet, but it appears TJ Roloto hasn't reprised his role as Frank. Posting for the first time since 2018, the official Dead Rising Twitter account said: "Hello? Is this thing on? This is Frank! Frank West! Is anyone out there? Grab your camera and prepare for the big scoop on Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Stay tuned for more info soon!"
There are very few other official details released by Capcom, other than the trailer description that pitches the Deluxe Remaster as "an updated release with a brand new look". A PS5 version isn't explicitly mentioned, but a release on PlayStation consoles is pretty much a certainty. Are you excited to return to the original Dead Rising with a modern look? And the winner for a game absolutely no one asked for goes to.....
@Decoy_Snake Certainly not this one. Dead Rising is amazing.
Always wanted to play this but never got around to it so count me in!
@Decoy_Snake The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Best surprise game announcement of the year. Based Capcom can do no wrong!
@LiamCroft a new DR going back to the original roots, 100% sign me up, another rerelease of the original not for me.
What??? All 4 are great games and perfectly playable on current gen systems. Absolutely baffling decision from Capcom unless there are some major changes or a huge amount of new content.
QOL improvements won't cut it for this release.
Dead rising has been on ice long enough. It’s time to go back to where it started
Capcom just dropping bangers on a random Wednesday. First the original Resident Evil trilogy pops up on GOG and now this.
I love this game
Why not just make a new one?
@LiamCroft I'm really looking forward to this one, a brilliant game
Wow. Cool News to say the least 😎.
@Dalamar They killed the studio years ago…
@__jamiie
Dead Rising 4 is anything but a great game. Doesn't even have boss battles.
@LiamCroft Preach brother! God I hope they do this remaster well so we can see new entries. The last couple were so bad 😵
@__jamiie Meh, 3 and 4 weeeeeere... not great 😅 Hopefully this remaster redeems it, I'm ready to dive back into a crowd of zombies with chainsaw oars 😂
Dead Rising is actually one of my favorite series from Capcom. I was probably the only person who voted for Dead Rising in that Capcom survey. 😂
@AverageGamer Theres a chance capcom has staff that worked on the first Dead Rising. The first one was developed in house while the sequels were done by a different company they eventually bought.
One of my all time favourite franchises, I’ll be quad dipping. Haha.
@AverageGamer By that logic RE should have ended after 4.
@jrt87 @Brydontk Sorry. In my opinion. I enjoyed them all.
Hopefully the horrific controls will be overhauled. Otherwise, this is a puzzling announcement.
I always had a soft spot for the original Dead Rising. There's just something about it that the sequels just couldn't replicate.
I still prefer Frank's original VA, for nostalgia, but I'll definitely get this.
I played dead rising on my 360 when it launched and I really enjoyed it. Seeing as i never bothered with the others or the remasters I'll probably purchase this. It is a great game after all.
I would not be surprised if Capcom was planning a reboot of the series given that fact that there is a new voice actor in place and a new remaster, and I would be all for that!! I love the first game, played it to death on both 360 and PS4 and I really liked the second game too! Bought an Xbox One just to play Dead Rising 3, but didn’t like the direction that Capcom went with the 4th game. I think a reboot in the vein of the first game would be awesome though, I loved the whole vibe of a Day of the Dead feel to the proceedings!
Removed - unconstructive
Wish they would remaster Dead Rising 3 for PlayStation
I remember laughing like a maniac when I got hold of the lawnmower and mowed down loads of zombies, ah happy days...
I finished Dead Rising just 2 years ago, I enjoyed it so much, I did go for all the BLING trophies.
Would probably do it all over again, will definitely check it out in a deep, deep sale.
Bring DR3 to PS5.
The generation of remakes and remasters.
@Dalamar RE should have ended after 4… Then we wouldn’t gotten 5 and 6, and all the other random nonsense they’ve given us. I still don’t consider 7 and 8 RE games.
Rather see a Dino Crisis1/2 or even a Resident Evil 1 re-release.
@__jamiie Dude that's fine, Im glad you did! I'm just saying in terms of your original comment where it's a "baffling decision"?... Nahhhh, a lot of people weren't fans. So the series needs to be reinvigorated before they do a new one
@Flaming_Kaiser the funny thing is today, Capcom just released the original PC version of Resident Evil on GOG.com, with the PC versions of 2 and 3 to follow later on.
@AverageGamer My condolences
@zidane4028 I mean like a re-release like they did with RE 2,3,4 that would be awsome.
Feels really off not hearing T.J. Rotolo. I don't quite know, it's like when Snake in MGSV was replaced by Keith Sunderland...
Cool this is happening regardless.
Seen Dead Rising 1 & 2 ps4 ports on sale on the odd occasion but never quite took the plunge despite enjoying the little bit I tried on 360 once. The time limit is a central part of the game, but can see myself getting distracted with side quests!🤔 Well, that or replaying it i think to do things you missed first time?
Nice to see Dead Rising rising from the grave.😆
....ouch, these cricket sounds.😞
Seriously though, good to see the series again after being so dormant all this time.
Ladies n Gentlemen, this is a victory for all of us DR fans.
@Decoy_Snake you are wrong. The original is goated and has some wonky controls. A remaster would be massively welcome from a gameplay and graphics angle
@LordAinsley I think the original is the best in the series but I don't see why it needs a remake, I'd personally rather see a new game going back to the originals roots rather than whatever was happening with DR4.
the first game was amazing , but obviously its outdated game play and visually. giving it a more modern look and update the game play, i think it could be amazing. maybe even add content to it ?
I am all for this. I wanted to like the original game but the whole thing felt wonky to me.
I'll be interested to see how this one is brought into the modern era.
I bought an Xbox 360 SPECIFICALLY for Dead Rising. This is VERY welcome! I trust Capcom wholeheartedly to do right by this game.
@Bionic-Spencer Same! I bought a 360 for the original Dead Rising and an Xbox One for Dead Rising 3 (and Sunset Overdrive lol)
Meanwhile four years later: still waiting for remasters/remakes of Total Overdose, Scarface, GTA4, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Mercenaries 2, Saints Row 1 and 2, and others.
Is this an updated remaster of the DR game that I did not like, and only played a couple of hours because it all seemed to be annoying clock watching time crucial game play? It has been many years and I believe the first DR game is the DR game that I downloaded and played on my PS3.
God forbid Capcom do anything with Viewtiful Joe or God Hand. Looks like we'll be getting remasters/remakes of zombie games for the foreseeable future. What a shame.
Calling it DRDR is fkn cool
@YoureTooSlowBro Yeah. I'm happy for DR fans but i would love to see Capcom remaster God Hand, Viewtiful Joe, Haunting Ground, Chaos Legion, Clock Tower 3, Dino Crisis, and BoF.
These old games are still stuck at PS2 or PS3 and the physical copies are crazy expensives for some specific games. Haunting Ground for example, a brand new copy could be price $500+ or more.
Please update the AI.. escorting the rescue characters around drove me round the twist.
Well the voice actor change is incredibly disappointing. :/ Why do they have to do it for something like a remaster? That's so unnecessary, but whatever I just hope it isn't the same one from 4 because god he sucked ass.
@Decoy_Snake another comment that desperately needed 'imo'
Great game, bring it on.
So no TJ and guaranteed handholding
@PuppetMaster Yeah it's just ridiculous at this point. People like to call Playstation the sad dad simulator and remaster company, it's about time we start calling Capcom the zombies and remaster company.
@__jamiie Dead Rising 3 is still unavailable on PlayStation sadly...
Yes, one of my favourite series! Can't wait for it 😁
