Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi spearheaded an RPG project called Fantasian a few years back. Released through Apple Arcade in 2021, it was a well-received return to the old school JRPG formula — and now it's coming to PS5 and PS4 this winter as Fantasian Neo Dimension.
Boasting turn-based battles, handcrafted backdrops, and music by legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, it could scratch an itch if you're looking for a more traditional (and somewhat quirky) adventure. Just to be clear, Fantasian is 'free' through an aforementioned Apple Arcade subscription, and we don't yet know how much the game will cost on console.
Will you be trying Fantasian? Have you already played it on mobile? Get ready for your next adventure in the comments section below.

Will be keeping my eye out on this. Wasn't really hyped for that announcement but game piqued my interest
It's kinda ironic that SE publish this game.
But ngl it looks interesting.
They need to port Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey everywhere. Stranded and wasted on xbox
All those Sakaguchi worshippers better put their money where their mouth is.
Great game. Really enjoyed playing it on my iPhone and MacBook. Great that it getting more attention.
@Rmg0731
Definitely especially if someone who owns an Xbox manages to find a copy of Lost Oddysee at a cheap a price as it costs an absolute fortune now.
I’m glad I have both games, would absolutely love a remaster of both Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysee especially if they are made multi platform
I was interested in getting this but wasn’t wanting to pay for Apple Arcade, glad I didn’t get round to doing so. Definitely will get it for PS
We have Brother NieR at home 😅
@Dragoon1994 yeah im lucky to have ny copies and even the strategy guides of old. These were and still are so overlooked because no one on the platform plays these types of games. Would much rather have them everywhere and maybe towards having one less box
An honest to goodness Sakaguchi RPG. Can we just call this FFXV and have a do-over?
@Rmg0731
Yeah same I never knew about the strategy guides though.
Would absolutely love to play Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on PS.
Both games are actually rather difficult which probably also put some people off them
i swore that i would wait for the console release rather than play through the apple arcade version (which nobody wanted). we're finally here!
This is another one I'm looking forward to finally it's released from apple jail
Played it on my iPhone and if you’re up for a game like Final Fantasy 7-10, you’ll have a good time. Also the pre-rendered backgrounds were hand made dioramas, which really gave it a distinct aesthetic.
I think the hand crafted environments are great, such an interesting way of doing it, arty and unique. Like running around a tabletop model.
@Porco "the apple arcade version (which nobody wanted)."
If it wasn't for Apple or Apple Arcade... This game wouldn't exist period. It was a game that only came into existence due Sakaguchi meeting with some Apple employees, who were fans of both Final Fantasy and Uematsu's work, and the funding that provided to them through Apple Arcade.
Started playing this on apple arcade, but my sub lapsed. Seemed pretty good, was visually appealing.
Played it on my iMac, I thought it wasn’t bad and it had its own aesthetic but after the initial enthusiasm, I lost interest. Maybe it will “feel” different on a console
I am definitely going to buy this inshAllah! Love Sakaguchi era FF games and IMO FFX was the last true FF game. Played FF12, 13, and 15 but nothing hits the same as classic Sakaguchi FF games.
@ManifoldCuriosity I think they did when SE has a collab with Sakaguchi for FF XV x Terra Wars / Battle.
@Dragoon1994 Lost Odyssey doesn't go for much at all. You can get it from CEX for £8.
@AverageGamer highly doubt that. apple was doing all it could to get its new arcade service off the ground and it needed a few "big name" titles behind it. they gave sakaguchi a good offer that he couldn't refuse (paid for the entirety of the development i believe). but that doesn't mean there wouldn't be other suiters had the apple opportunity not happened. regardless, it doesn't change the fact that apple arcade was a bad fit for the game and the vast majority of those interested wanted to play it on a console.
@Porco Sakaguchi literally stated that in multiple interviews for the game that there was no plans for it prior to Apple. Whether or not Apple was looking for “big names”. This game only spawn because of that… We would have probably ended up with a vastly different game had they went with someone, or they would continue supporting Terra.
Who to say it was a bad fit? The only people who had problems with it. Are those who holds a grudge against mobile gaming in general or Apple.
@Rmg0731 I don't like the two remained as forever true gem! They must me revived somehow
