Final Fantasy 9 Remake Is Almost Certainly Real as Another Database Leak Appears

Please no, you already butchered FFVII.

Has a strong chance of being revealed at Nintendo's direct next week, along with Dragon Quest 1-3 HD-2D trilogy.

I don't expect fancy visuals like FF7 Remake, il be happy with a an art style similar to the Trials of Mana Remake.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. FFIX is my all time favorite and I want Square to do this right

First Final Fantasy game I finished and loved it, If I remember correctly I played it on the ps1 around 2001/2002 ? I bought it as a young 18 year old with my own money from the shop.

If its as good as FF7 Remake I'm all in. And by that I mean give it the same attention and love, but I'd love this remake to stay turn based and light hearted

As a ffix fan, i personally wouldn't want the remake trwatment like ffvii. I'm hoping it will be more like tlou part 1. Graphics built from the ground up, but the whole structure of the game is still the same, maybe with a new qol improvement and some fun features like changing costume or whatever

FF6, FF7, FF8,FF9 is probably single greatest run of games in video history. It been all downhill since ff10.

My guess is that this will be a comprehensive remaster, and not a full remake. Something like Metroid Prime. I remember this game being pretty massive…

I CANNOT wait for this. FF9 is my favourite game of all time - I feel like this is likely to be more of a 1:1 remake when compared to 7. My only worry is how much it ties to the anime coming to netflix. We haven't seen anything from that but from the description the animation style could be a little unusual

Please yes, they've really done fantastic work so far with the FF7 trilogy. I love how they've added meaningful story and character arcs, rather than the slop of lazy 1 for 1 remakes and remasters that this generation is cursed with

@Dalamar - FF7 still exists in its original state, hasn’t been butchered at all. 😆 I get not everyone likes the FF7R trilogy, but let’s not ignore the fact that mainline Final Fantasy dev team should be taking note of from those games on how to design FF17 and not model it after a MMORPG like FF16. The side quests in FF7R at least added to the story if they didn’t provide any items or materia.

Not a fan of 9, bummed they skipped 8, could really use an update where they ditch the Draw system. That’s really all I want, a functioning remastered 8, not the remaster we got.

@knowles2 Exactly right! 6-9 was such an amazing stretch. 16 brought me hope for future, even if it didn’t reach this stretch. Just wish the battle system was better

@BrotherFriede If they rebuilt it without prerendered backgrounds that's good enough for me. Heck, I would even accept prerendered background as long as they are not blurry like they are in FF8 Remastered.

@BrotherFriede Yeah, same — I'm (mostly) enjoying the FFVII Remake series, but I'm in the back half of Rebirth and I'm really starting to feel the bloat. FFIX was already a pretty packed game as it is, so a like for like remake would be awesome.

I hope this doesn't mean that FF9 will launch as an Epic exclusive, I want it in my Steam Deck...

Honestly the Final Fantasy 9 Remake just gets me nervous. I don’t trust modern Square Enix to make something that captures what the original was. Especially when the original already aged extremely well. Honestly the only change that could be made that would benefit the game is speeding up the battle system a bit. The game doesn’t really need a remake.
While I do really like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series for what it is, it absolutely does NOT do the original justice.

@BrotherFriede From rumors and leaks this isn't a full blown remake like FF7, but more like a remake/remaster like Crisis Core. A major glam up, but retaining the structure and battle system, etc.

You Are Not Alone scene in HD is worth full price admission alone.

Yes, they added meaningful story and character arcs, but they also added a boatload of fluff/filler and story changes that undermine the plot of the original.

@knowles2 Hard to argue against that. Even more insane when you consider they pumped out that entire run in the time it takes to create a single AAA game these days. Or even, let's be honest, in a shorter timespan than that.

I still like/love some of the post FF9 stuff, but that run will never be topped.

My absolute favorite game of all time. I get online literally everyday just to look for news on this. I'm praying so badly that its a faithful remake with the same artstyle with the deformed character models, etc. (not the ugly Dissidia design) and that outside of some quality of life improvements and graphics, it the same old game. In other words, I'm praying its just a super remaster...not a remake.
Makes me wonder when or how this will be revealed as the State of Play has passed. Seems weird to be at a Nintendo Direct but who knows?

Tried to play the remastered but it is really bad (the remastered, not the game) so i'm gonna buy this D1, loved FF7 Remake/Rebirth and XVI, keep on Square!

@Durians i agree with him. 10 had an awesome story and music but Tidus ruined the entire game for me. One of the worst protags of any game ever imo.

I have it on good authority that something FF9 is 100% happening. I don't know if it's something as simple as a port, or a full blown remake, or something in between, but at the very least I heard they were recording voiced dialogue for it a year or two ago. So at the very least some work is going into it as opposed to a straight port.

@BloodyBlact it wasn’t made by one person. It was a group of devs from all over the industry that volunteered their free time to make it.

I reckon it’ll be more along the lines of the Secret of Mana remake they did. With basic cartoony graphics. Nothing big like FF7

I am pretty sure this will not be the same kind of remake as FF7.
This will likely be the graphics facelift that we actually asked for FF7 and got the reboot instead. 😅

After 7r, 16 and 7rebirth in short order, I'm kinda tired of final fantasy now.

Unless Square Enix confirm it themselves it’s not happening, don’t trust leakers anymore since Insomniac Games was hacked.
As much as I’d love an FFIX remake I don’t think it needs one, but if they do one all Square needs to add is voice acting and maybe Beatrix as a permanent party member

After moving FF7 and then ff8 I absolutely hated 9 thought it was awful

Great game, I'm not expecting anything drastic here and I'd imagine we could expect a similar game to the original but with spruced up graphics (a bit like the fan remake that was done) I don't think real time would suit the game and it definitely needs a specific type of visual due to the original art style. hopefully it's turn based.

Having Harry Potter dementors that try to prevent the original timeline from changing, and events happen like Barret dying and then being brought back to life by the dementors because it wasn’t the original destiny, and then literally fighting destiny once leaving Midgar, and the whole alternate timelines thing being brought into the story. All these changes is stuff that respects the themes of the original in your opinion?

Also, pretty ironic that you say you’re disappointed FF10 didn’t have a world map when FF7 Rebirth got rid of the world map and replaced with Ubisoft formula open worlds.

Please don't ruin 9. I don't like that they skipped 8 which ironically would work with the idiotic story butchering that they did with 7.

I swear if they ruin this like Ff7, with 3 instalments with 16 dlc add-ons I'm done with square and their business models.

@Durians Disagree. Open world in Rebirth is great. As for what you said about story you are exaggerating as most story beats were left intact. Story is better then original and I grew up with original also.

Sadly it won’t probably be nearly as ambitious as VII remake project and more just like a cosmetic update … and people will praise it like it’s a good thing because they actually want to play the same game over and over again. But hey, surprise me.
The original is fabulously charming but too conservative gameplay-wise compared to other installments for me so it ranks as one of my least favorite games in the series…

The open world is mostly repetitive copy and paste content. The chadley stuff gets old fast.

As for the story, the defeating destiny thing isn’t minor and completely messes up with the theming of the original. It’s completely weird that you go from literally killing gods to stuff like Costa Del Sol and Gold Saucer.

I do love FF9 though and so will definitely play it and enjoy it but as with other 1:1 remakes like Shadow Of The Colossus and Demons Souls etc it'll be a one and done "That was nice" kind of feeling. No remake has hit like FF7's for me, I like that they tried making it fresh y'know?

@J2theEzzo FF fans have cried about every entry since 8. Something will be wrong with everything Square Enix does, even if the fans have to dig to the earth's core to find their favourite nitpick to hang onto for the rest of their lives.

Not unlike Star Wars, the FF fanbase is a cesspit.

I replayed FF9 recently and whilst its still the best FF of the PS1 era it was really showing its age it places. Hopefully with the remake they keep it turn based with the same art style and just expand on the dialogue a bit.

If they are going to keep doing remakes then they need to stop teasing us and remake Vagrant Story because that was such an amazing game.
