Review The Evil Within (PlayStation 4)
Clair de Loony
The Evil Within knows how to make you sweat. Tango Gameworks’ disgusting debut outing will leave you teetering on the precipice of failure with every twisted encounter, causing you to curse your shortage of resources or your character’s lack of superhuman strength. This is a game that, like its survival horror superiors, isn’t...

News PS Now's February Update Adds The Evil Within, LEGO Worlds, and Cities: Skylines
Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy still available
We're already a few days into February 2020, and that means it's time for the latest PlayStation Now update. Sony has just announced which PS4 games will be joining the enormous roster of titles available on the on-demand service, and it's a trio that will appeal to very different...
DLC Review Braving The Evil Within's Season Pass on PS4
Ruvik's cube
Survival horror games are part of a somewhat niche genre that constantly break moulds and, in the process, either make unexpected, monumental strides in innovation or uproarious setbacks by straying too far into other genres. Regardless, many of them have shocked the gaming world, and The Evil Within was no exception last year. Much of...
News The Evil Within Sets You a New Assignment Next Month
You've got to be Kidman me
The threads of The Evil Within's convoluted plot will get increasingly tangled next month, as Bethesda has announced that add-on pack The Assignment is imminent. This will boast a fresh concurrent storyline starring detective Juli Kidman, and promises to uncover the truth behind her association with the mysterious Mobius...
News Bethesda Shines a Light on The Evil Within DLC
Don't tease us, please
With unforgiving combat, a surreal storyline, and infrequent checkpoints, last year's The Evil Within was a case of horror game Marmite – you either loved it or you hated it. Assuming that you fall into the former camp, though, you may be excited to learn that DLC is on the way, with 'The Assignment' due out in March...
Out This Week Borderlands, The Evil Within, Minecraft: PS Vita Edition, Peggle 2
Oh my goodness
Holy schnitzel, if you thought that last week’s edition of Out This Week was stacked with an insurmountable number of new releases, then this instalment is in a whole different league. With the summer being comparatively barren for new PlayStation software, we’re not sure why developers big and small have decided to deploy their...
News Unleash The Evil Within with Japanese PS4 Bundles
Scarily good
Sony loves its bundles at the moment, so it’s no surprise to see it sell Shinji Mikami’s upcoming survival horror The Evil Within – or Psycho Break as it's known overseas – alongside a couple of custom PlayStation 4 consoles in Japan. Like previous sets in the East, these come with custom hard drive fascias, showing a mansion...
TGS 2014 The Evil Within Looks Tense and Terrifying in This New Trailer
Within without you
As Jane Austen famously stated in Pride and Prejudice, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a trailer for a survival horror game is made much more terrifying when it has Debussy's Clair de Lune playing in the background. Unfortunately, the creators of The Evil Within's latest offering forgot the second half of that popular...
Gamescom 2014 PS4's The Evil Within Will Chill Your Blood for Up to 20 Hours
Shiver down the spine
It really is the generation of terror, with The Evil Within one of several scary titles set to deploy on the PlayStation 4 this year. Don’t think that you’re going to see this one through swiftly either, as the Shinji Mikami developed release will unsettle you for up to 20 hours according to Bethesda’s public relations...
News PS4 and PS3 Survival Horror The Evil Within Will Scare You Silly a Week Early
Surprise
Heralded as a true survival horror experience, and considered the spiritual successor to the widely adored Resident Evil 4, The Evil Within's gory gameplay has several of us here at Push Square pretty buzzed. Unfortunately, the title was delayed earlier this year, and was not scheduled to release until late October. However, at QuakeCon...
First Impressions Burning Bodies in The Evil Within on PS4
You're Mikami crazy
When legendary developer and horror game kingpin Shinji Mikami first unleashed the T-Virus onto the PSone in 1996, he not only managed to popularise the genre with mainstream audiences, but also founded a blockbuster franchise that would go on to sell millions. Some 18 years later, it could be argued that the long running...

Preview Hopping Away from The Evil Within, the Scariest Game on PS4
Lopped legs
Despite what the developers may tell you, survival horror is as dead as the butchered corpses that once tormented the genre. Franchises that founded the format – the likes of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and, to a lesser extent, Alone in the Dark – have gradually shed their endurance aspects, favouring rote supernatural shootouts in...
