Just days after its surprise announcement, Capcom has confirmed the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will launch for PS5 on 19th September 2024 via the PS Store. A physical version will follow in November. Priced at £44.99 / $49.99, the original game has been modernised, firstly with a 4K resolution running at 60 frames-per-second. Check out the trailer above to see the remaster in action.
As part of the Capcom Next livestream, the publisher covered lots of quality-of-life improvements to go alongside the visual overhaul. You'll now be able to move Frank West while aiming, there's an auto-save feature so you no longer need to find a bathroom anymore, NPC behaviour has been improved, and more control adjustments will upgrade things further. Real-time lighting and shadow effects will then change the look and general mood of the mall's locations based on the time of day. It's also now running on the RE Engine.
A Digital Deluxe Edition of the game is also available, bundling in tons of bonus costumes and soundtracks, including a few items from Dead Rising 2. It'll set you back an extra £5 / $5 on top of the standard price. Will you be checking out Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster? Let us know in the comments below.

Very much pleasing to know that the RE7 director is doing RE9. Whatever RE9 is gonna be about, it now has a great chance of being scary survival horror
This is bordering on full remake. This looks amazing. Day 1 for me
I'm buying but 2 things I so far do not like, one is Frank's hairline and the other is the fact that they added autosaving. If I'm allowed to turn that off then I'll be happy.
@RoliePolie91 That's pretty much what it is, a faithful remake because it keeps the core game intact but utilizes new assets. Just like how Demon's Souls, Modern Warfare 1 and 2, and Shadow of the Colossus have been. The developer in the interview did a piss poor job on why it's even called a remaster lol
Its nice to know Capcom haven't giving up on DR.
I wonder if their planning to make a new DR game but starting them off with remaking the first one? But similar to what I think Sony's doing with Until Dawn.
I really wish there were textbook definitions of "remaster" & "remake", it's a bit maddening to see remakes be called remasters & vice-versa. Honestly, I'm not even sure I know the difference at this point.
Of course this gets a physical release but not Kunitsu-Gami 🙄
This is looking like 2002 RE Remake of the Dead Rising series. Capitalising on every ambition the original fell short of due to hardware limitations or clunky design decisions. The original was designed to be a showcase of then next gen machinery so I think a remake is interesting and appropriate.
As praised as present day Capcom is, I really do wish they would stop with the remakes. Just give us new stories rather than reselling us prettier versions of ones we already paid for.
Curious if the soundtrack will remain the same as some of the songs are liscensed.
It really looks good. I might just hold off on a physical copy to be honest.
About $15 too expensive.
Glad to hear the save points have been updated, that was infuriating all those 18 years ago
Hell yes, I'm hyped!
@KundaliniRising333 to be fair, a lot of today’s gamers haven’t played the originals of a lot of Capcom’s remakes, so to them they are new stories.
@yohn777 The way I look at it is if it's just upping the resolution and framerate, maybe even Changing art assets then it's a remaster.
If the graphics and/or content have been completely redone then it's a remake.
@jFug Also, 18 years ago the player base was tiny compared to now. The original Dead Rising only sold 3.3 million lifetime copies. Remaking it almost two decades later is totally fine as (1) its a really good game more people should get a chance to play and (2) the quality of life updates will make it much more accessible for people who weren't playing so long ago.
Also, remaking old popular IPs is good for the entire industry right now. New IPs are launching and failing spectacularly on a regular basis, so bringing back older games is cheaper and a lot less risky for developers. This game will need to sell many less copies than a new IP to be profitable and allow Capcom to keep making games.
Not even two months away. Thank you Capcom. You have blessed us.
Does this still have a time limit?
When they say move while aiming, I'm assuming that means aiming and shooting has been properly mapped to L2/R2. If I remember correctly, the 2016 PS4 port still made you hold R1 to aim and X to shoot.
I hope the trophy list is easier than the re-released from 2016. The AI was infuriating.
@jFug To be the fairest, the PS4 version of DR1 is perfectly playable on PS5.
@Rmg0731 yes that is the main gameplay in DR and the whole purpose of the survival aspect of this game
@Ichiban They didn't remap the dodge roll move so a lot of people, myself included, were accidentally dodge rolling frequently. If you Google it there's all sorts of Reddits with people complaining about it. Except for that yeah it's fine. But I still welcome this remake. I'll get the physical version though.
Nice as long as LRG aren’t behind the physical version I’ll be definitely it physically
Physical copy for me
@KundaliniRising333
I still want remakes of Dino Crisis 1&2, Gregory horror show, Chaos Legion and Shadow of Rome.
Capcom can’t revisit their old IP’s with new entries when newer gamers won’t know about or have played the older games in a series or an IP they want to do sequels for that newer gamers won’t know about the previous game.
This will be aimed to players who haven’t played the OG version or HD remaster, or will be new a story for them to experience
Had the deluxe edition of the original on PS3 but only put about 4 hours into it. The trailer makes me want to revisit this with the physical copy in November.
This looks really good and harkens back to a time when games were pure fun. I remember playing this religiously on the Xbox 360 though I never actually beat it. Time to right that wrong, Frank West!
I was so hyped when I found out about this. I still semi regularly play DR1 DR2 and off the record.
Didn't know anything about it and it's not like a 5 year wait.
I doubt it will but I hope it does really well then capcom can remake Dino Crisis and then a jew dead rising
