If you can remember Captain Blood, a hack and slash action game that was originally set to release on the original Xbox all the way back in 2006, then you probably deserve some kind of prize. The title was actually cancelled after numerous reworks, but fascinatingly, the full thing was leaked over a decade later — and reportedly, it can still be found and downloaded if you go looking for it.
Anyway, Captain Blood is coming back. Developer SeaWolf Studio is finally, officially releasing the game after all this time, and it's promising a combination of the title's "original glory" and "a series of modern improvements for today's gamers". And yes, it still looks very PS2 — in a good way!
Captain Blood is sailing to PS5 and PS4 this autumn / fall. Do you remember this one at all? Will you be giving this revival a shot? Try to avoid swashbuckling swordfights in the comments section below.

"Captain Blood" is the most mid-2000s game name I've ever heard.
I remembered reading a book named Captain Blood so I looked it up and yep it’s based on the books Captain Blood that came out in the 1920s.. weird
@HotGoomba how do you know what 2050 is going to be like?
This is genuinely one of the coolest things I think I've ever seen. If the source code is in a workable enough condition then I'd love to see more 'lost' games like Star Fox 2 and now this come back. I'm also a massive sucker for PS2-era games so Captain Blood is absolutely up my alley, fantastic to see!
Not the Captain Blood I was thinking of! Would’ve preferred a remake of the 1988 Ere game of the same name, that came out on Atari ST, Amiga, Spectrum etc
This looks so cool. And it's awesome that it looks "very PS2." Love the exaggerated characters, and the animations look fun and expressive. Didn't have an Xbox so I hadn't heard of this before, but as an action game fan, I will definitely be checking it out.
@riceNpea asking the real questions here!
That actually looks pretty good. I miss the simpler games of that era, it's why I've ordered myself a PS2.
Well I do like pirates and I do enjoy a (hopefully good enough) hack-and-slash so I give this a go.
Looks pretty interesting. BTW, as of this post the Youtube link starts at the 81 second mark on here. Might want to update that.
@jorel262 Thanks, that's fixed now!

It's crazy to see something like this still make it to release without a word for years, lol.
FYI, it's coming to all major platforms. https://www.vgchartz.com/article/461457/pirate-themed-action-game-captain-blood-releases-this-fall-for-all-major-platforms/
@riceNpea I have a feeling bit is going to be like now but worse and warmer obviously.
I dig it. Characters have a kind of "Vagrant Story" graphical angularity to them, like if they remastered that PS1 game for PS2. And the game play looks a bit Mideval so that's good. If the reviews are decent I could see dropping $20 on it. 👍
@michaelf same.
Interesting. Ok Sony, now give us the cancelled The Getaway 3.
Definitely looks like a game intended to be released on the og XB
Arrr time we get bloody me hearties.
Only Captain Blood game I know is the one that came out for Amiga & Atari ST back in the 80s/90s....I thought it was that that'd got remade.
If you told a new, official ps2 game would officially come out in 2024, I would beg you to not be lying. Definitely checking this out.
Lol this is looks better and fun pirate game than that AAAA pirate game from Ubisaft. I'll put this game in the wishlist.
@Bentleyma Ikr. Years ago I lost my PS2 along with the majority my PS2 games collection from fire accident. But now i want to order a new one with some games like Shadow of Rome and Tenchu 3. I really miss playing these simple games.
I’ll be all over this once it releases. I’ve been in such a nostalgic mood lately, and this only fueled the fire.
You don't know how much I want this. I'm craving for more PS2/Xbox 2000s cheesy goodness.
I love how this trailer doesn't take itself seriously, not even the "not final footage" disclaimer. Like it's begging people to acknowledge that this is a port of an old game and not seeking to be the next technical masterpiece that pushes modern systems to their limits so please forgive its faults. I never heard of this game before, but I am all for it. Give me decent controls and I'll be happy.
I wish PS2 style would be something more devs would go for.
It looks great. Looks like a cool game from cool era
Looks interesting I'm up for it.
